A wee mosaic of the other yarn that i’ve been lucky enough to receive recently. You can click through to Flickr to see each picture bigger if you like!
The Great Yarn ReStocking of 2011
Ive been knitting up a storm the past month or so. My wonderful husband and son got me a wonderful selection of yarn for my birthday so i’ve been busy making plans and plans. I’ve also received 5 new knitting books between xmas and my birthday, 4 of which are sock books :-)
This is Toddy, from The Yarn Yarn. I couldn’t get the camera to pick up the colour correctly – in real life it is a wonderful very very orange. The boy picked it out for me when I visited The Yarn Cake in Glasgow. I was let loose in the shop and was told to buy whatever I wanted for my birthday present (did I mention how much I love my husband!) The end result was a whole lot more sock yarn and some lace weight too. I would have bought a jumpers worth of Drops Nepal, but I was foiled by being so fat that they didn’t have quite enough in stock – there will be an order placed once I’ve saved up some more pennies though!
This is the wonderful KnitPicks Stroll Handpainted in Treefort. I got a wee surprise after the trip to Glasgow with a parcel from Great British Yarns. A few different colours of KnitPick sock yarn to try out – I am very excited to get stuck into these.
This beauty is Filatura Di Crosa Centolavaggi, which I bought in The Wool Shed, in Oyne, near Aberdeen. Ravelry tells me it is cobweb weight, but it looks like laceweight to me. I’ve been searching for just the right pattern to use with it, but I think it will be sitting in my stash for a while, awaiting inspiration. We went on the drive through with the man’s aunt – It was her birthday so I bought her a new needle in Aberdeen because she wasn’t sure about tying it :-) We also had a trip all the way through to Aberdeen to visit Wool For Ewe – where they remembered us from the last time we were in, many months ago. I managed to find yarn for one of the jumpers i’m planning on knitting this year – and it was on sale!
So, that’s just a small selection of my latest yarn aquisitions, I hope you enjoy them!
Blocking Day
Lots and lots of blocking here today, 2 hats, 2 shawls and a bunch of socks!
I managed to get almost all of them into one photo, but the other shawl was already dry by this point. The boy loves his Android Hat and keeps asking how long until it dries.
Must remember to take some more photos of the hats once they are done :-) And the man bought me some sock blockers as an early birthday present so as my knitted socks come up for a wash, they are getting blocked and re-photographed – am I a little to obsessed?
Zombie Socks
Knitting time in France seemed to go a lot faster than in Scotland – maybe it was just the large amount of wine :-) I’ve started on the second sock and it is coming along faster then the first one, which is good as I want to hurry up and wear these.
This is the first Araucania yarn I’ve used that has pooled and i’m still undecided on whether or not I like it, it seems to depend on my mood! Although it possible doesn’t help that I named these my Braindead Zombie socks as the colours just make me think of zombies and the pattern is “Brainless” by Yarnissma
I love the sock patterns Yarnissma comes up with, and my mum was most impressed with the way the gusset is knitted before starting on the heel. It has become a favourite of mine too.
Returned!
I’m back from my wee break over the festive season :-) I had a fantastic time in France with my parents – lots of wine, chocolate and mum cooking was had and the boy had a great time too, even picked up a few new French words and is very proud of them too.
I had packed a cardigan project and a sock project that both got a bit of work done on them while we were away, but mostly I just vegged out and read lots and lots.
My wonderful family gave me some amazing gifts, and I’ll show off the yarny goodness here. Lots and lots of plans are being made in my head now, and I think I have queued about 20 new sock patterns from “Sock Inspiration” and “Toe-up Socks for Everybody” which were gifts from my in-laws and my husband.
I am seeing lots and lots of pretty socks in 2011, that and I want to do some more laceweight knitting. This weekend I think I will spend making a very vauge plan of what I’d like to achieve with my knitting this year.
The end is near…
Well, as I sit here watching my parents kick my husband’s butt at Scrabble for the umpteenth time this week, I just wanted to say have a good New Year! It’s a quiet night for us, and the boy is off napping so we can wake him up for non-alcoholic bubbles at midnight – he’s very excited about it!
We have all had a fantastic xmas, lots of food, wine and fun – along with some cool pressies. I was given three different types of yarn and am currently knitting up a pair of socks from the book the man got me, with the sock yarn he got me (Fyberspates Sock Yarn in Jester)
I did mean to get a photo of everyone here with their knitted gifts on, but I completely forgot. I think people liked their gifts at least – and i’ve started planning next years already!
So, enjoy the end of 2010, and may your 2011 be bigger and better.
Xmas Knitting 2010
Hopefully these are cropped well enough that no-one can figure out their gift! And not all of the xmas knitting is here, there are a few more things that I haven’t got pictures of, or the ones that I do have are fuzzy (that’s what I get for using my mobile to take pictures!)
Finished!
Well, that’s all of the presents bought for this year. We all went out after school today and I managed to get the last couple of gifts – and managed to remember to get the boy’s teachers a gift as well.
Planning on getting the wrapping finished tonight and then it’s reasonably plain sailing until xmas time!!!! We have sent presents up North, and taken some West, had some collected and are delivering more that require an immense amount of driving. We have been given presents to deliver from others on our epic journey also – it’s going to be a full car for sure. Still need to find out if I can get the car serviced before we head off.
I am looking forward to xmas time this year, it’s been years since i’ve seen my parents for xmas – and having someone else do all of the cooking is a plus too :-) The boy is on mega hyper mode as well – There has been a countdown on the fridge since November that he scores off each night before bedtime.
If my family can all promise not to look at the next post that appears here, then I can do a mosaic of all of the knitting i’ve done for gifts this year. I have really enjoyed creating things for everyone – trying to make sure the right patterns matches with the right person and working out yarn choice. Not saying it has worked out perfectly, i’m only human :-)
Decorations
We put our tree up at the weekend, earlier than usual but that’s just how it works out sometimes.
When the boy was born we started buying one new bauble every year from a local department store. The plan is to keep up with one every year and end up with a really cool collection of different baubles over time. I think we are about at the stage now where there might need to be some culling of the original ones, bought before the boy was born, if they are all going to fit on the tree next year!
We are using an artificial tree this year. Last year we had to run out and buy one when we went to put up the decorations and forgot that we had had a real tree the year before after throwing out the old artificial tree – ooops! I was pleased though, we got our current tree half price – it does seem a little weird that the shop was selling the trees half price in December - you’d think that would be the one time of the year they could happily sell them at full price.
All Blogged Out

Well, I managed it. 30 days of posting. Now I am going to not write anything for a week! I have an assignment due for uni and the boy has been off school for two days due to the snow and it looks like he will be off again tomorrow so it’s hard to get any actual work done around here!
Managed to make some good progress on my cardigan today. The back is finished and I’ve just now finished the left front piece. I’m planning on using it as a reward for working on my assignment – hopefully avoiding the usual situation where I knit rather than do any work at all!
Happy knitting :-)
